Plastic Additive Tools: Calculators, Lookups and Selectors

PlasticAdditives.net offers 10 free tools for working with plastic additives: 3 lookups, 2 selectors, 4 calculators and 1 quote request form. The lookups and selectors search the same 437 substance records that sit behind the substance profiles; the calculators run the standard formulation conversions in your browser, so nothing you type leaves the page.

Which Tool Answers Which Question#

Each tool answers one question that comes up when choosing, dosing, checking or buying plastic additives. The table maps the question to the tool.

Your question Tool Type
What substance is behind this CAS or EC number? Plastic Additive CAS Number Lookup Lookup
What is the generic chemical behind this trade name, and what else is it sold as? Plastic Additive Trade Name Lookup Lookup
Is this additive on the SVHC list, restricted under REACH Annex XVII, or listed in EU 10/2011 or 21 CFR? Additive Regulatory Status Checker Lookup
Which additives are recorded for this polymer and this function, at what dosage? Additive Finder by Polymer and Function Selector
Which flame retardants have a published UL 94 result in this polymer? Flame Retardant Selector by Polymer and UL 94 Rating Selector
What is my recipe in wt%, ppm and kg per batch? PHR to Weight Percent Calculator Calculator
How much additive ends up in the part at this let-down ratio? Let-Down Ratio Calculator Calculator
What does this dosage cost per tonne, neat or as a masterbatch? Additive Dosage and Cost-in-Use Calculator Calculator
How many phr of a new plasticizer replace my current one at equal hardness? Plasticizer Substitution Calculator Calculator
Who can quote this additive? Plastic Additive Supplier Finder Sourcing

Lookups: Identify a Substance and Its Status#

The 3 lookups turn an identifier into a full record: chemical identity, family, function and regulatory status.

  • The CAS number lookup accepts a CAS or EC number, a name, an abbreviation, a synonym or a trade name, and validates every CAS number against its check digit.
  • The trade name lookup works both ways: from a trade name such as Irganox 1010 to the generic chemical and CAS number, and from a CAS number to every trade name stored for it. A shared CAS number does not make two grades interchangeable; purity, volatiles and colour are compared datasheet against datasheet.
  • The regulatory status checker shows up to 3 substances side by side across REACH registration, the SVHC Candidate List, Annex XIV, Annex XVII, EU 10/2011, FDA 21 CFR, Proposition 65, the Stockholm Convention and TSCA. It is a research aid, not legal advice: confirm the status against the primary text before a compliance decision.

Selectors: Shortlist Additives for a Polymer#

The 2 selectors start from the polymer and list the additives recorded for it, with the dosage exactly as the source states it. The additive finder covers every family, from antioxidants to fillers; the flame retardant selector adds a UL 94 target and a halogen-free filter. A rating is shown only where the source reports it for that system, and an empty result means the reference holds no record, not that no additive exists.

Calculators: Dose, Convert and Cost a Formulation#

The 4 calculators handle the arithmetic of a formulation sheet. The phr calculator converts parts per hundred resin into weight percent, ppm and batch weights; the let-down ratio calculator turns a masterbatch addition rate into the active level in the part; the dosage calculator converts any dosage into kg per tonne and compares neat additive with masterbatch cost; the plasticizer substitution calculator scales a PVC plasticizer level by typical efficiency factors, as a starting point for a lab trial.

Sourcing: Request Quotes#

The supplier finder sends one specification to producers and distributors of the additive family you need. It is free, and the replies come by email. The plastic additive manufacturers and suppliers directory lists the companies by family.

Data Behind the Tools#

The lookups and selectors read one data file built from the substance records of this reference, with the build date shown in each tool. Where a field is empty, the tools say "not recorded in this reference" rather than guessing. A substance name links to its profile once that profile is published; the full list is in the plastic additives database.
